One amongst the many services available to the citizens of India is the vast postal network it boasts of. However, due to legacy issues and a missing proactive technology-oriented drive, it is yet to reach its full potential.
Here is a thought-provoking post on the subject.
When is it that you last saw letters slipped under your door by the postman? For that matter, can you recall where your nearest postbox is?

The official website of India Post informs us that: ‘For more than 150 years, the Department of Posts (DoP)has been the backbone of the country’s communication and has played a crucial role in the country’s social economic development. Funny isn’t it, that as communications technology has spread and become almost instant, communication has become slower and less certain. If it is any consolation, the public mail service has deteriorated in more places than India. I deal regularly with Australia Post, the Royal Mail and the US Postal Service and they are all failing in their purpose. I think that is the core problem — they have lost sight of their purpose, and so have the governments that control them. Pity about telegrams — Aunt Dahlia has been left speechless.

Yes, indeed!
As to telegrams being missed, these would be missed only due to the kind of time intervals they provided in which the recipient could breathe easy. How tough life would be when one is still in bed and Jeeves shimmers in with a tissue restorative on a silver salver also carrying an iPad overflowing with accumulated WhatsApp messages from Aunt Dahlia bidding him to undertake an unpleasant errand without much ado. The mind boggles.

Leave aside the technological changes, the commitment of postman is no more there. I still recall postal delivery twice a day .Even on Sundays and public holidays one delivery was the practice.Today’s postman tries to avoid going around.
