In Plumsville, the delicately nurtured get proposed to in many delightful ways. Here is an exquisite sample from Plumtopia, based on the lives of George and Susan.
I asked my eight year old daughter to share her favourite Wodehouse romance and, after much umming and ahhhhing, she chose ‘The Truth About George’. In this short story (from Meet Mr. Mulliner) Mr Mulliner recounts the ordeal of his nephew George Mulliner, who must overcome his stammer in order to declare his love for Susan Blake.

That’s beautiful, and for an eight year old… I hope my daughter (who is now 13 months) can appreciate the words too…they bring us all together…

One has no doubt that the young one would be brought up on a Plum-rich diet, thereby spreading the spirit of togetherness!

Thanks so much for reblogging this Ashok. Yes, my daughter was eight — now nine. She is not a Wodehouse fan at present (possibly she is full up on Wodehouse), and is going through a modern pre-teen story phase. It’s not a battle I intend to fight at present. I just make sure there are great books in the house for her to ‘discover ‘ in her own time. She still enjoys Mulliner, but has taken a dislike to poor Bertie Wooster after he pushed Oswald in the lake.

Pleasure is mine.
As and when she discovers ‘Bertie changes his mind’ and comes across the antics of Peggy, I am sure she would realize that the hapless BW is more to be pitied than censured.
